The Copyright Office is an office of public record for copyright registrations and related documentation. Prior to 1978, copyright records were created in analog form, and housed in the Copyright Office. Once the “Digitization and Public Access Project is complete, it will provide web-access to all pre-1978 U.S. Copyright Office records.

- Manual of Patent Examining Procedure
This manual on HeinOnline is published to provide U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) examiners, applicants, attorneys, agents, and representatives of applicants with a reference work on the practices and procedures relative to the prosecution of patent applications before the USPTO. It contains instructions to examiners, as well as other material relevant to information and interpretation, and outlines the current procedures which the examiners are required or authorized to follow in appropriate cases in the normal examination of a patent application.

A government database of U.S. patents. Note: In order to view the full patents, you need a TIFF viewer, such as AlternaTIFF, a free software plug-in. The full-text images from 1790 - 1975 are accessible only by patent number and class number.
- Trademark Database (USPTO)
TESS (Trademark Electronic Search System) of the United States Patent and Trademark office provides access to text and images of registered marks, and marks in pending and abandoned applications.
